Lucy Maud Montgomery Lower Bedeque School
950 Callbeck Street, Bedeque, PE C0B 1G0
The fact that Lucy Maud Montgomery, the author of Anne of Green Gables, taught in this country school from October 1897 to the spring of 1898 spurred its restoration in 1989 and its relocation to Central Bedeque in 2021 where it is operated as part of the Bedeque Area Historical Museum. Furnished as a nineteenth-century country school, there are displays on the history of schooling in the area, and on Montgomery’s life in Bedeque, where she fell in love with a young farmer Herman Leard with whose family she was boarding. On display are mementos connected with Herman.
